Senior Engineer, Riser and Mooring

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • The Riser & Mooring Engineer is the accountable technical authority for integrity, reinstatement and offshore execution of all risers and fluid transfer lines (FTL’s) systems within the FPSO replacement project. This role is critical to ensure safe redeployment and successful offshore installation of 20-year-old aging flexible risers/umbilicals with new mooring and floating transfer systems The role is a significant contributor to protecting the [project schedule, and core objective to mitigating execution-sensitive risks that directly impact shutdown duration and production deferment. The role requires a deep technical understanding of deepwater riser and mooring systems and relevant execution expertise.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Key accountability: End to end delivery of riser and mooring scope from engineering phases through offshore execution, installation and commissioning. This a leadership style role to ensure the execution strategy proposed by Contractors is fit for purpose, maintains asset integrity, and has clear contingency planning.
  • ​Design & Engineering Oversight: Review and approve riser and mooring system designs, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • ​Technical Authority: This is a key technical authority level role with decision for riser/mooring issues that may arise during all phases of the work including offshore execution. Thuis includes resolution of technical deviations, approval of design and installation methodologies and procedures and assurance of contractor deliverables.
  • Fabrication and testing: Ensure readiness of new fluid transfer lines systems though surveillance, FAT/SIT participation and pre-installation certification and compliance to regulations.
  • Asset Reinstatement: Lead technical assessment and reinstatement planning for aged flexible risers and umbilicals, ensuring integrity and readiness for redeployment.
  • Installation Support: Provide engineering support during offshore installation, hook-up, and commissioning of riser and mooring systems.
  • Risk Management: Identify, own, manage and mitigate technical and execution risks associated with deepwater mooring and riser reinstatement. Attend all Project and Contractor risk reviews including constructability, HAZID’s etc.
  • Interface Coordination: Collaborate with FPSO, FTL/MWA, T&I, and subsea teams to ensure seamless integration and avoid scope gaps and ensure the contractors adopt interface resolutions.
  • Contractor Oversight: Monitor EPC and OEM contractor performance, ensuring quality, safety, and schedule compliance.
  • Reporting & Assurance: Deliver structured updates on riser and mooring status, risks, and mitigations to project leadership.

KEY AUTHORITIES

  • As provided/assigned by a FPSO Engineering Manager.
  • Technical Authority to approve riser and mooring system, technical resolution and deviations
  • Accept or reject installation, riser/umbical redeployment philosophy, methodologies and procedures
  • Supports project decision-making during offshore. Escalate risk that impact milestones, schedule, cost or first oil.

The primary responsibilities are:

  • The Health Safety and welfare of all persons engaged on or related to any site project work being undertaken by COMPANY. Persons include COMPANY personnel, staff, contracted and visitors, including third parties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Offshore Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
Working Experience15 years of experience in deepwater (>600m) riser and mooring engineering within offshore Oil & Gas projects. Proven track record in deepwater floater (FPSO or similar) for riser reinstatement and mooring system design/installation.
Special Skills RequiredStrong and demonstratable knowledge of flexible risers, umbilicals, mooring analysis, and offshore installation methods. Familiarity with international standards (API, DNV, ISO) for riser and mooring systems.
